The constructions with the Koryak verb ivәk ‘to say’ show communicative strategies of the speaker or the listener. The strategy of the speaker is marked by finite forms, the strategy of the listener – by found only in Koryak unique dative converb. The strategy of the speaker can be agentive-oriented or addressee-oriented. The strategy of the listener is manifested in several discursive mechanisms of reference-tracking and refer-ence shift. Choice and preference of specific mechanisms within each strategy are partly determined by the narrative genre but mostly belong to individual style of narration.
